Privacy Policy

Math Core is a free math learning site. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect only what's needed to save your progress, we never sell it, and you can delete your account at any time.

Using Math Core without an account

You can use every lesson, practice problem, test, contest and the grapher without signing up. Your progress is then saved only in your own browser (in its “local storage”) and never sent to us. Clearing your browser data erases it.

What we collect when you create an account

• Your email address, used to sign in and, if you ask, to reset your password. It is never shown to other users.
• A username you choose. It can be seen by others on the leaderboard (see below).
• Your password, which is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider. We can't see it.
• Confirmation that you are 13 or older.
• A profile picture, only if you add one. Anyone with its link can view it.
• Your learning progress: which practice problems you've solved and when, your unit test and mock contest scores, and your leaderboard setting.

Mistake reports

If you use the flag on a problem to report a mistake, we store the page, the problem, and anything you type in the note. If you're signed in, the report is linked to your account so we can tell reports apart. Please don't put personal information in the note.

The leaderboard

The weekly leaderboard shows your username, profile picture and how many problems you solved that week. It never shows your email. You can hide yourself at any time with the “Show me on the leaderboard” switch on your account page.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent your information, or share it with advertisers.
• We don't show ads.
• We don't use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.
• We don't let users message each other.

Services we use

To run the site, your information is processed by two providers on our behalf:

• Supabase stores accounts, progress and profile pictures (servers in the United States).
• Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host, it keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

Math Core itself doesn't set cookies. When you sign in, your session and your light/dark theme choice are saved in your browser's local storage.

Children

You must be 13 or older to create an account. Anyone can use the site without an account. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has an account can email us and we'll delete it.

Deleting your account

Use Delete my account on your account page. This permanently deletes your account, email, username, profile picture, progress and leaderboard history. Mistake reports you sent are kept without any link to you. You can also email us to ask for deletion or for a copy of your data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so on the site.
