Counting objects to 10
You can count to 5. Now let's keep going, all the way to 10! Ten is how many fingers you have on two hands.
More counting words
After five, the counting words keep going.
6 six, 7 seven, 8 eight, 9 nine, 10 ten
So the whole list is: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Count bigger groups
Counting works the same way with more things. Touch each thing and say one number. The last number tells how many.
Rows of 5 help
When there are lots of things, put them in rows of 5. A full row is 5. Then keep counting the next row: six, seven, …
Worked example: Count the bees
How many bees?

The top row has 5: one, two, three, four, five. Keep going on the bottom row: six, seven. There are 7 bees.
Worked example: Use your fingers
How many fingers?

Each hand has 5 fingers. Count them all: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. There are 10 fingers.

Common mistake
Don't start over at the new row! After five, say six, not "one."
